MeV-mass dark matter and primordial nucleosynthesis

چکیده
The annihilation of new dark matter candidates with masses mX in the MeV range may account for the galactic positrons that are required to explain the 511 keV γ-ray flux from the galactic bulge. We study the impact of MeV-mass thermal relic particles on the primordial synthesis of H, He, and Li. If the new particles are in thermal equilibrium with neutrinos during the nucleosynthesis epoch they increase the helium mass fraction for mX ∼ 10 MeV and are thus disfavored. If they couple primarily to the electromagnetic plasma they can have the opposite effect of lowering both helium and deuterium. For mX = 4–10 MeV they can even improve the overall agreement between the predicted and observed H and He abundances.

Stochastic Isocurvature Baryon Fluctuations, Baryon Diffusion, and Primordial Nucleosynthesis
We examine effects on primordial nucleosynthesis from a truly random spatial distribution in the baryon-to-photon ratio (η). We generate stochastic fluctuation spectra characterized by different spectral indices and root-mean-square fluctuation amplitudes. For the first time we explicitly calculate the effects of baryon diffusion on the nucleosynthesis yields of such stochastic fluctuations. We...
متن کاملPrimordial Big Bang Nucleosynthesis
Big Bang Nucleosynthesis is the theory of the production of the light element isotopes of D, 3He, 4He, and 7Li. After a brief review of the essential elements of the standard Big Bang model at a temperature of about 1 MeV, the theoretical input and predictions of BBN are discussed. The theory is tested by the observational determinations of the light element abundances and the current status of...
متن کاملDark Matter and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis
The recently observed Deuterium abundance in a low-metallicity high-redshift hydrogen cloud, which is about ten times larger than that observed in the near interstellar medium, is that expected from the Standard Big Bang Nucleosynthesis theory and the observed abundances of He and Li extrapolated to their primordial values. The inferred cosmic baryon to photon ratio, η = (1.60±0.1)×10, yields a...
متن کاملCosmological implications of light element abundances: theory.
Primordial nucleosynthesis provides (with the microwave background radiation) one of the two quantitative experimental tests of the hot Big Bang cosmological model (versus alternative explanations for the observed Hubble expansion). The standard homogeneous-isotropic calculation fits the light element abundances ranging from 1H at 76% and 4He at 24% by mass through 2H and 3He at parts in 105 do...
